I love audio books! And I recently listened to Finding God in Unexpected Places by Philip Yancy which blessed me greatly. And I believe it will bless others as they too partake in its spiritual insights.
We are about to enter into the Lenten period, a time of reflection on Christ’s story. Yet, if you are like me, the easiest thing to do is to continue to live your life focused on your own personal story, which of course often distracts us from truly leaning into Christ’s life, a life lived and died wholeheartedly for the sake of others.
One of the wonderful aspects of Lent is it is a time that we are charged to live life Jesus’ way–sacrificially–beyond our own human comforts and preferences. While Yancey’s book is not a Lenten devotional it can surely be used to supplement what you might already plan to use because it is an easy read composed of many various stories from around the world. His true stories invite the readers to see how God can be found in the most unexpected places.
Yet Yancey’s book has done even greater things in my heart for it makes me want to go beyond just seeing God’s footprints in unexpected places to looking for ways that I too can make him visible to others. It is a book that offers great Christian encouragement, especially to those who seek to live a more intentional missional life reaching out just as the faithful Christians in his myriad of stories did as they made God’s mercy and grace a reality to those in the most need of the hope the Good News of the Gospel promises.
