This coming summer Restoration Church will send a mission team to Belize on July 10-16, 2016. We will provide some much-needed maintenance work at Holy Cross Anglican School, as well as hosting Vacation Bible School for the children who reside in the nearby town of San Mateo located on the island of Ambergris Caye.
Two missionaries working in Belize City, Francis and Vernon Wilson, founded Holy Cross Anglican School in September of 2006. While visiting the neighboring town of San Pedro, they saw an incredible need for a school since the existing schools were full. They founded Holy Cross Anglican School which educates children from preschool through eighth grade and draws most of its students from the poor town of San Mateo who otherwise would have been forgotten.
Last year, Restoration sent a team of 14 to Belize. We arrived prepared to paint at Holy Cross School and host a VBS for the local children but it was not until we walked through the small community of San Mateo inviting children to join us that reality of their living conditions set in. The families living in this community are extremely poor and many, even though they are hard working, struggle to provide the basic necessities for their children.
I know I am not speaking just for myself when I say that the children stole my heart. After spending the week with them, singing songs, sharing the story of Noah’s Ark, and making crafts, the team made a decision that Restoration needed to return. We want to continue the wonderful relationships that began last summer. We also want to support the school that not only provides an education for these children but also enables them to get medical and dental care.
This video was created by Karyn Ward to share our experience last year in Belize. Take a moment to see the faces of the children in San Mateo. Would you please consider joining Team Belize this summer? For more information, contact me at Karengiardina@me.com
