One custom for the season of Epiphany is the blessing of homes going in to the New Year. Families hold a short service of prayer to ask God’s blessing on their home and lives for the year ahead. This is also an invitation to Jesus to be a guest in our homes, a companion for all the joyous and difficult times.
“Chalking the Door” is also part of this blessing in the New Year. A blessing is written in chalk on the frame of the front door. It reminds us of the story of the Exodus when the Israelites were told to mark their doors with the blood of the lamb on the night of the Passover. We ask for God’s protective hand to be on our homes and all who go in and out of the door in the year ahead.
Sign up for a time for Jed to join you at your front door for a short service of prayer and blessing for 2021.
Sign-ups available every Monday beginning January 25 from 3 pm to 6 pm.
