On Saturday a group of 20 from Restoration got out of town for the Prayer Book People Retreat, a day focused on establishing the habit of praying the Daily Office found in the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. The day was shaped by the cycle of prayer found in the Book of Common Prayer starting with Morning, then Noonday, and Evening Prayer and an option to pray Compline (the “bedtime” prayers and Bible readings).
Everyone at the retreat learned about the different types of prayers and readings that make up the Daily Office. In addition, we were taught new spiritual exercises and contemplative practices that can allow us to experience the Daily Office in different ways. And we shared books, apps, podcasts that make praying the Daily Office a little easier for everyone. By the end of the day, each person was able to go home with a customized plan for establishing the habit of praying the Daily Office.
During the season of Lent Restoration will focus on prayer on Sunday mornings and in many of our Community Groups. We are also challenging the whole Restoration family to pray the Daily Office every day during Lent. If you weren’t able to attend we will make the retreat resources available to you as a PDF next week. We would love to help you develop your plan and find the right resources for praying the Daily Office.
