2018 is drawing to a close and I am filled with gratitude for all that our congregation has done together. As we focus on generosity during our Antidote sermons series, I especially want to thank everyone who has given toward Restoration over this past year. It’s my great privilege to serve alongside you as part of this family.
As we look toward 2019, I am asking all members of the Restoration family to renew their commitment to give faithfully and generously to our church.
For some, this will mean praying about and establishing a recurring monthly offering. I emphasize the importance of an intentional, ongoing practice of giving because our habits have the power to shape us. In a world sick with materialism and selfishness, giving is our antidote. As Jesus put it: “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).
For others, this call will mean re-evaluating and praying about what God is asking you to give. All our gifts are given in worshipful response to the God who has given everything for us. When we give sacrificially, we “walk in love as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us” (Ephesians 5:2).
All of your gifts have supported our work together of joining God in the restoration of all things. This year, we’ve seen lives transformed by Christ. We’ve been a part of feeding the hungry, welcoming refugees, and planting new churches. We stepped out in faith to add a Family Minister to nurture our church family as we grow into our mission.
As we look toward our future, I am convinced that now is not the time to wait for ‘what’s next.’ I am convinced that God is at work right now, forming us into a body that is fit for the work that is yet to come. And I am convinced that part of this formation will be found in our strengthened commitment to give. Again, I am overwhelmed by your generosity to Restoration this year. I cannot wait to see what God has in store for us on this journey together.
