On Sunday I preached about Peter’s instruction to believers: “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” We have a tendency toward thinking that sharing the faith is a job for professional Christians, when in fact the Gospel is best shared by amateur evangelists in our daily life.
I compared this to our changing relationship with music. 100 years ago most people enjoyed music as amateur musicians, playing music and singing together at home. Now, we almost only ever listen to music produced by professionals and sold for us to consume but not perform.
I listened to this fascinating podcast by Freakanomics several months ago that got me thinking about the way pianos and sheet music were replaced by records and phonographs. I highly recommend it!
