School has started and fall is almost here, though I see that nobody told the weather. At Restoration this means that we are beginning the Church Season with a celebration to gather everyone after the summer and renew our commitment to the life together within the church. Following worship on Sunday we invite everyone to stay for the Fall Fiesta. We will have a nacho bar from Rosa’s and extra time to connect with the volunteer teams and ministries that are essential to Restoration.
When you come to the Fall Fiesta we want you to ask yourself three things:
1) Where can I SERVE in Restoration?
2) Where can I GATHER with others from Restoration?
3) Where can I REACH OUT beyond Restoration?
We have more great opportunities for you and your family than even before.
We need many dedicated volunteers who serve the Restoration family as we gather for worship each week. Each Sunday begins as we unload our trailer into Slate and set up light and sound equipment. Then the children’s and hospitality teams prepare each room for worshippers to arrive. During our worship service you’ll see musicians, ushers, readers, and chalice bearers serving throughout the service. Meanwhile, our children’s volunteers are guiding our children through age appropriate lessons. And if you’ve ever stayed after the service you know that everything must go back in the trailers. If you’ve ever thought about joining in, Sunday is your day to officially join a team. It takes a lot of work to be a mobile church but we think that more volunteers make for more fun.
We encourage everyone to take the next step in moving from just attending worship to making personal relationships within the Restoration family. Try a fun event like the laid-back Men’s Gathering or the not-always-crafty women’s Crafty Chic. We are also extending our popular summer Nine to Dine into the fall with new groups forming now. Take a deeper dive into the Bible and spiritual formation in a more intimate TIE (Three is Enough) group–just put your name up on the board this Sunday and we will help you find two others who would like to pursue a deeper spiritual journey with you. And there will be additional opportunities to study with Renew Women’s Bible Study and with new classes coming later this fall.
And we are so grateful for all the champions of ministries outside the “walls” of Restoration that are key to our church identity. Take a moment and talk to our refugee teams about how you can help a refugee thrive in their new home here in Dallas. Find out about local needs at Network Community Ministries and Fellowship of Hope Mentoring. And consider joining a new ministry to international students at UTD. We are blessed with great opportunities for people of all stages and talents to find a place to reach out.
I look forward to celebrating getting the family back together this Sunday after the summer. Come ready to serve, gather, and reach out. Oh, and there will be nachos!
